wonderful Passion Pit. he made this cd as a love letter to his girlfriend. how precious is that?
Broken Social Scene was Monday. I had to say at first I was thinking to myself "what a waste of money..." Which is horrible. And i apologize greatly. Kevin Drew was ill. It still turned out magnificent. They need more ladies though. I am just saying...Lisa crazyhair was enjoyable. But bring back the vagina to bss please???
one saving grace was Charles Spearin's happiness project. BSS people have an overload of side projects. and i love when they showcase something really great. and the happiness project was different. and for some reason i fucking loved it.

"do you want ta. like you know i do."
also, something i watched literally last year. Encounters at the End of the World. This was directed by Herzog (of grizzly man fame). it is about the end of the world basically. and the crazy (or genius) people who inhabit antarctica. there were some wonderful scenic views. i honestly did not know much about the place. polar bears and ice and santa's evil twin. who knew there was a fucking town. and they have soft serve ice cream. i have already forgotten many of the facts (like the "towns" name). it's kind of gross though. and what we have created down there is pretty ugly. it's definitely not some shiny happy perfectly white town.
in one part they do mention pengiuns. even though it was herzog's goal to not make another march of the penquins. there is this man who studies them intensely and basically doesn't speak much (to humans anyways). herzog asks him an cringeworthy/embarrassing question about their possible homosexual tendencies. soon after that it shows some of the penguins in their natural roles. and one that seems to be on this determined path toward the mountains and inner antarctica. the further inland he goes the farther away from food, family, friends and sustainable life he gets. maybe he knows this. maybe he doesn't. either way death is imminent and this little guy keeps on trucking. immediately i think of parallels to chris mccandless. and his deadly journey. the penguin even passes by a group of humans. who know his destination and plight, but are under strict guidelines and are not allowed to interfere. and it's obvious even if they took him back he would only venture out once more....to the mountains.
maybe he is a crazy penguin. or maybe this is something ingrained in a certain percentage of all of us...i know he didn't exactly hate his 9-5 and flourescent lighting and wanted to chase some dreams. either way he felt the urge to get away. and he did something about it. you got to respect that. even in a penguin.
